Justin Surratt

Field Instructor — WFR

Joining our team in May of 2016 as an intern instruction candidate, Justin Surratt was quickly promoted to his current position as a field instructor, joining our other instructors in coordinating and then guiding many of our multi-day adventures.

Born and raised in Hampstead, N.C., Justin worked for several companies prior to signing on with NCOAE, including Indo Jax Surf Charities, where he served as a surf instructor. Justin is a certified Scuba Open Water (NAUI) instructor and a Wilderness First Responder (WFR), and his free time is spent outdoors where he surfs, kayaks, boats, and fishes, rides bikes and skateboards.

After taking several wilderness-related courses at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and working with a nonprofit organization that teaches people of all ages the environment in and around surfing, Justin began a career in environmental and experiential education at NCOAE. His passion for human-powered outdoor recreation activities — both as an employee of ours and an aficionado — has enhanced Justin’s abilities in leadership, teamwork, innovation, and other attributes that make for a great NCOAE Field Instructor.
