David Young

Director of Emergency Medicine Education

David Young, M.H.Sc., is the Director of Emergency Medicine Education at The National Center for Outdoor & Adventure Education (NCOAE) in Wilmington, North Carolina, where he brings experience in EMS program coordination and classroom instruction. With a background in emergency medical care and program management, David helps support NCOAE’s commitment to preparing students for the demands of administering emergency medical services in urban, rural, and wilderness settings.

Originally from Bakersville, North Carolina, David previously served as Assistant Director and Training Officer with Mitchell County EMS, formerly Mitchell Medics. In that role, he gained experience coordinating education programs and teaching EMS classes.

David earned a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medical Care from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina, in 2010 (the very first Baccalaureate Emergency Medical Care (EMC) program in the United States), and a Master of Health Sciences from the same university in 2012. He is certified as a paramedic through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) and is recognized by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services (NC OEMS) as a North Carolina paramedic. He also holds Basic Life Support (BLS) and Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certifications.

Outside of work, David enjoys hiking and bicycling. He is married to April, and they have three children.
